I was a sorcerer in AD&D. Here I hope to be interesting--at least to someone.

Logic vs. Religion

Yesterday I was accosted while going to Menards. I just needed to pick up a new doorknob, and I wanted to get back home ASAP, because I wasn’t feeling well. As I approached the store, a man in a suit got in my way and demanded that I go to God and ask his forgiveness for working on a Sunday. This was the Sabbath, and as a representative of God (an assumed representative), he felt it was his job to police all the people who were ignoring the words of the Deity.
As he inhaled, preparatory to a continuation of his blatherskite, I interrupted him with a few questions.
“You say that this is the Sabbath?”, I asked.
“Yes, and...”
I interrupted again, “And you say that no one should work on the Sabbath?”
He tried to continue, “Yes, and...”
“You also say that telling everyone is your job?”
“Yes, it is, as God has told me...”
“Then,” I drove on, “Doesn’t that mean that you are working on the Sabbath?”
Flabbergasted, he stared at me. “I..., but..., er...”, he stammered.
I continued on my way, and just before entering Menards, I looked back. The man was still standing in the same place, gesticulating, and talking to himself.
He wasn’t there when I left.
